Les horaires des cours seront modifiées du 5 au 15 juillet pour permettre à tous les amateurs de musique et des arts que sont les capoeiristes en général de profiter des spectacles du Festival.  Ainsi pendant ces 10 jours, les cours à l’intérieur du lundi et jeudi seront de 18h00 à 19h30 (au lieu de 18h30 à 20h30) alors que les cours à l’extérieur des mardi, mercredi et vendredi seront de 17h30 à 19h15 (au lieu de 18h00 à 20h00).

On avait dit qu'on vous tiendrait informés au fur et à mesure du déroulement des événements, eh bien voici du nouveau!!!

Pour ceux qui devinent le portugais, voici un échange de correspondance entre moi et le Brésil à ce sujet: message du 5 juillet 2001.

Pour les autres, en voici un bref résumé:

Voyant qu'ils étaient sans réponse du Consulat quant à leur demande envoyée par fax, Joao et Luana sont allés porter leur dossier de nouveau, en main propre cette fois, au Consulat à Sao Paulo.

Tout s'est bien passé mais on leur demande de passer un examen médical qui coûte 150 $R (environ $120) chacun et ils n'ont pas cette somme sur eux.

L'échange de correspondance a donc pour but de voir comment je pourrais leur envoyer cet argent. Afin qu'ils n'aient pas à retourner à Arraial d'Ajuda pour cela, alors qu'il semble qu'il ne manque que cette formalité pour émettre le visa et que leur passeport est retenu au Consulat jusqu'à ce que ces examens aient été fournis.

Eh, oui ! la Fête du Faubourg est de retour et on espère que Quilombo-Québec apportera à cette belle fête populaire la même énegie que lors des années précédentes.

Tous les membres de Capoeira Sul da Bahia / Quilombo-Québec sont donc conviés à venir contribuer de leur énergie autant pour les choeurs, les instruments et les mouvements que pour taper des mains et animer la foule.

Comme à toutes les rodas mais particulièrement celle-ci, on espère aussi la visite de capoeiristes de l'extérieur pour conserver la tradition de fraternisation qui caractérise la capoeira de Québec.

Today’s Topic: LAND OF THE FREE?

The United States of America was based on the ideals of freedom and of "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." Somehow in the last 225 years that has changed, and we as Americans have more restrictions on us than most of the First World nations.

Take for example: drinking age. In the US, 21 is the standard age at which we can legally consume alcohol. In most of Europe, it is 16, and in some places, old enough to reach the counter. Result? Teens can legally drink two years before they can get behind the wheel. They can congregate at any local establishment to party, and they usually do this in moderation more than their American counterparts because it's legal, and therefore not something that's fun just because it's not allowed. In addition, Teenage Drunk-Driving is almost nil in Europe.

Prior to Prohibition, beer in the US was almost universally micro-brew quality and readily available at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, the beer industry was the hardest hit because unlike wine and liquor, relatively large amounts would have to be consumed for any effect, and the bootleggers and Speak-easys were out for high concentrations of alcohol, not taste. Afterwards, the only breweries left standing were the low-price, low-quality brands which have become today's mainstreams, such as Budweiser and Miller. Only within the last 10-15 years have we seen a re-surgance of Quality Beer in the US. The US is the only (mostly) Christian industrialized nation that has ever attempted Alcohol Prohibition, and still has some "dry" areas left to this day. Imagine the bloodbath at Oktoberfest if the Germans had ever tried to outlaw beer, or if the Irish ever tried to shut down all the Pubs in their country.

Prostitution is legal, and even government regulated, in most European Union countries. Condoms are required, the women are given mandatory periodic blood tests, and most often the fee for services rendered are 1/3rd to 1/2 of State-side prices. It is safer, cheaper, and the hookers are not as likely to be drug-addicts. So why doesn't the US legalize it? Because no American Politician is willing to throw away their career in order to sponsor, or vote for such a measure. Same with Marijuana use. In most EU countries, it's illegal, but Amsterdam is only a few hours drive from most places, and there are no Border checks anymore within the EU. Not to mention that even with the Dutch government taking their share, bud averages only $10 a gram. Besides, how many fights and murders have you seen start at a Pot Party?

Euro-TV allows nudity and swearing, while the FCC and the rest of the US is worried about our children watching too much sex and violence on TV. Out of all the "free" nations, only in America do you have to mind your P's & Q's so much, lest someone sue you for saying something or other, or presses for Sexual-Harassment charges. I believe we should rename our country the United States of the Offended.

It's amazing how America got a lot of its conservativeness from England during the Victorian era, yet Britain is a far more liberal country than we are. The Bible Banging South is the region most responsible for bringing the American society in the Anti-alcohol, Anti-drug, Anti-sex, Anti-fun direction it's been in for so many years. In America, it's all the religious people who try to tell everyone else how to run their own lives. It's the religious ones who try to tell us who and how often to pray to, what we can teach in our school systems, and how to live our lives. If you think all this is bad enough, look who our Preznit is, and the direction we wants to take us.
